From urban dictionary, I was reading some “random” terms. One of the terms I use of late is “script kiddie.” A script kiddie (and variations) is simply a person who is normally a young teen that plays with computers and tried to break into other computers. The main point is that they use tools built by other people, because they couldn’t write a tool/utility to save their life. A real hacker has skills. A hacker has been working with computers for a very long time (read: decades) and has some wisdom to go along with that. These are the kids that think the movies are legit and accurate to a T.

Anyway, I read one with some commentary that I got a kick out of and I wanted to share with you.
“Hackers are really cool people. Script kiddies are morons.
Hacker: I just wrote my 30th module for the Linux kernel! Linus Torvalds emails me every day, he loves my code!
Cracker: I just broke into the CIA’s webpage and replaced all occurances [sic] of the president’s name with “Mr. Dumbass”, It’s funny as hell!
Script Kiddie: j0, ph00! I ju57 stolezored me a b0rkified wind0ze 3.1 b0xor. It r0x0rz my s0x0rz. I wundr if it g0tz Linux on it? Whutz Linux anywayz?” [no sics; that is leet-speak]

Oh, I haven’t talked about a cracker yet. Crackers are what most of society thinks of hackers. They are generally malicious, mean, and selfish people. They do have talent, in some cases a lot of talent. But they use that talent for mistreatment of others’ systems. That’s the key. Hackers are ethical. They fix things and contribute versus the crackers breaking things and defacing websites. Script kiddies… well… Lolz? :-D
