I see so many people who make excuses all of the time.  It is never anyone’s fault; it is always someone else’s.  Then, on a very rare occasion, I see someone who never passes blame.  There is a huge difference in how they think.

The concept is called by people wiser than I your “sphere of control.”  Most people make excuses for when things go wrong.  (Example here)  Boss: “You were late for work today!”  Employee: “Yes, traffic was bad today.”  This person is outside of their sphere of control.  They are not seeing how to solve their problems.  They don’t want to take responsibility so they pass it off.  It happens everywhere.  I think I did it the other day.

The other side is owning your sphere of control. If you have it, getting things done becomes a lot easier because of your perspective.  When you own it, you will focus on foreseeing things like heavy traffic days or something else that might delay your trip to work each day.  When you try to do something for a long time, guess what!  You get BETTER!  So when you see something that may make you late, you will do what you need to punctual (for the example).

When problems arise, the people who are inside their sphere of control will always be the ones who adapt better and faster than anyone else.

Thank you Sunshine for teaching me this ever-so-important concept.
