This question has been asked by many after last October. How can you keep a job? How can you keep your clients? How? How? How? Get back to the fundamentals!
Many people are scared because they don’t know whats happening nor what to expect in the coming months or years. They cannot see where they are. They are only along for the ride. And I will admit that I’m at the mercy of a few things too. However, I’m really trying to keep my eyes open as per my situation and where I am at. If you can’t see where you are, how will you see where the correct path lies?
In everything I do, there are swings. There are mood swings. There are monetary swings. There is even statistical variance. People change and grow and flow and move. It is the downswings that show the “true colors.”
Now there is something else in those things that rarely changes: fundamentals. From understanding something, wisdom of the fundamental workings of it come along. Fundamentals make things more stable and calm. (Relatively!)
So how can we apply this to the job market? First off, we need to ALWAYS be watching what is going on. Then, we look for companies that are fundamentally sound. These companies are focusing on destroying their overhead costs. They are costantly adjusting to changing markets. They are not laying anyone off! Why? They don’t have to! They provide their products and services for resonable prices while still making money – > becuase thier costs are low! These companies are also contantly looking for ways to produce the same product or better at a lower price so that they can increase their profit margin.
This will give you a good, sound, solid company to work for. Now, chances are that you will have a tough time finding a company like this right away. However, they are out there and they are probably hiring too! The people they are hiring are like they are: sound and solid. The more you see things from their perspective; the more likely you are to get hired.
Something else to ponder…. many of the companies that really make money will hire you for a project. What does this mean? This means that you will have employment through the project and then you will be unemployed again. What can help? Having two or three projects at one time can help this. The people who can do this are constantly busy when they want to be and constantly skiing, travelling, playing, etc when they want to be.
I know, I know! tl;dr right? HAH!
